GREEN TECHNOLOGIES IN THE VALLEY OF MEXICO

During 2016, Irene and the inhabitants of the Valle de Bravo-Amanalco watershed developed capacities to improve their quality of life. They fostered their development and achieved the sustainability of natural resources through the construction of green technologies to have access to basic services such as water and sanitation.

  • COMMITTED TO THEIR DEVELOPMENT

Throughout eight years of working with the communities in the watershed, we have witnessed the unlimited transformative capacity of the inhabitants. Their commitment has allowed us to continue bringing technologies for water access, sanitation and other basic services.

Like Irene, many mothers have shown exceptional leadership. Along with her, the other inhabitants took the reins of their development, participating in the trainings we implemented to learn about the construction of green technologies and the effective use of the resources of the watershed. They also strengthened ties with the other community members by working together to build infrastructure in their neighbors' homes.

  • COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH

Green technologies allowed to improve the quality of life of the community and, at the same time, to achieve the sustainability of the environment under a comprehensive approach:

Access to safe water in homes with catchment systems (rain harvests).
Improved sanitation through the installation of dry toilets.
Conservation of the environment through the construction of energy-saving stoves that reduce fuelwood consumption by 50%.
Reduction of deforestation, and boosting of the family economy, with backyard plantations for food production.
