This is a private university, a leader in Latin America comprised of a system of a university of multi-campuses with 33 campuses in Mexico and a Virtual University with headquarters in Mexico and Latin America; it also has representative offices in Asia, Europe, and North America. It has 93,642 students and 8,200 professors.

The Inter-American Development Bank is the principal source of multilateral financing and expertise supporting economic, social, and the institutional sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The IDB works directly with countries to fight poverty and to encourage social equality through programs that are specifically adapted to the local situation.

Objective


To create a platform that contributes to the sustainable management of water in countries located in Latin America and the Caribbean through the improvement of management and use of water, the reduction of effects on the environment in the regional ecosystems through investigation projects, technological development, consulting, and curricular and continuous educational programs.

The specific objectives of CAALCA are:
  1. To dedicate efforts toward formal and informal training to respond to the water needs of the region.
  2. To establish research programs in subjects related with the use and the management of water in the hemisphere.
  3. To create and develop a platform to integrate information related to water in Latin America.

Description


Initiative of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, FEMSA Foundation, and the Inter-American Development Bank focused on the creation of the first private research center in the sustainable use of water in Latin America.

The Center is comprised of investigation groups focused on the five thematic areas:
  • Integrated Management of Water Resources (MIRH) in the Basins and Aquifers
  • Supply and the Sanitation of Water in Urban and Rural Areas 
  • Security and Management of Water Risks
  • Water for the Production of Food
  • Innovation and Technological Development for the Use of Water

The characteristics of the CAALCA are the following:


  • Hemispheric: with a presence in all of Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Vanguard Technology: the most advanced and focused technology to answer current needs (in the sector)
  • Multi-disciplinary: integrated by a network of professionals in the medical, biomedical, engineering, administrative, and public policy fields.
  • Strategic Alliances: Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), World Water Council, ANEAS, and ADERASA.
